When Grandbabies #1 and #2 first toured the Big Blue House, they almost immediately discovered the stash of Christmas mints that were left over from the holidays. After asking for one, I immediately unwrapped a mint for each of them and let them enjoy that sweet treat as part of their first experience at Grandma's House.
A couple of weeks later, while shopping with their mom they saw shelves of the same mints for sale! Grandbaby #1 excitedly exclaimed, "Look, Mom! Grandma mints! We have to buy some!" Her mother, always quick on her toes, responded, "We can't. Only Grandma's are allowed to buy those." Luckily, I heard about this conversation in enough time to take advantage of the sale!
No matter where we are, at some point, these Sweet Little Girls will sooner or later ask for a Grandma Mint. I've tried to always have some on hand. Tried
One day, I arrived at their house to help mom with an errand and was immediately greeted with huge smiles and, "Did you bring peppermints, Grandma?" I had hurried out my door on the way to their house and had forgotten to load my pockets. My eyes widened in amazement at the fact that I was completely unprepared. I had to tell them that I did not have mints. I forgot to bring them. I thought they took the news rather well--a little sad, but still happy to tell me the other important things happening in their little lives.
I learned a few days later that my absent-minded error was very memorable for them. Their mom told me they had created a new game. One would walk up to the other and say something like, "Grandma, did you bring mints today?" After a millisecond of waiting, she would answer her own question with, "Nope. You forgot them. Again." Apparently, the game was played several times a day. For days.
Lesson learned! am now keeping Grandma Mints in my car as well as all over the house. :D It is so fun to modify these little parts of my life to accommodate for my Grands! I love being a grandma!
