It is almost impossible to describe the instant love and attachment a grandmother feels for her grandchildren. I anticipated each of their births and did everything I could to help get things ready for their arrivals.
I was lucky enough to be there minutes after Grand #3 was born. I helped Mom and Dad learn the ropes for the first 3 weeks of her life, so she and I had a lot of snuggle time. I automatically started calling her My Sweet Little Girl. When she would open her wide, dark eyes, I would start talking to her. I was most excited to tell her about all the things we would do when she came to my house. I thought about all the things I enjoy doing and imagined how fun it would be to do those things with her.
Just a few months later, I had the opportunity to spend extensive time with Grands #1 and #2, also Sweet Little Girls. I absolutely loved establishing my relationship with each of them. And I realized I was starting to experience a few of the things I'd imagined earlier, teaching my Grands some of the things I loved.
Then it occurred to me that the imagined and the real-life experiences were worth writing about! I knew there would be others that could relate to the fun-and funny--that spending time with kids naturally brings.
So, "Grandma's Big Blue House," was born! My character, "Molly," is a collective of my Grandbabies. At this point, Molly and Grandma have 15 stories! Just wait until you hear how my grands have shaped the book series.
Just as I looked forward to the arrivals of my grands, I look forward to experiencing everything I've been writing with them in mind! Being a grandma is the best job in the whole wide world!
